BVA316 - Studio -Week Three

I began reading from a few books from the SIT Library:

Is there an Invercargill Aesthetic?

The downtown of Invercargill has a clearly historic aesthetic with a few modern buildings filling gaps where unstable or poorly maintained buildings once stood. When the redevelopment begins many of the historic facades shall be lost and replaced with a new modern look.

Will the new buildings alter the aesthetic?

This is a real possibility due to the size of the new developments, and that our historical places are forgotten.

Can AI assist in the visualization of the aesthetic?

This is yet to be seen, but i am confident that it will create an interesting end product. Video, Photographic, 3d printed models...

I started on the curation of my images for the data set. I reduced the photographs to black and white so as to reflect history, much like how films use black and white for flashbacks. Black and white also means that the file size is reduced which is beneficial to the data set construction. I have tried to center the composition of each shot so the building is the main focus. The silhouette of the buildings are more pronounced in black and white. This initial batch is comprised of 385 shots
