Research Mapping 2 Class hand out

                                                                                                                                                                    BVA303 Research Mapping 2 

Use the underlined headings to structure your dissertation mapping 
• Weighing 15% 
• Due 14th June 5pm (emailed to kathryn.mccully@sit.ac.nz – please name submission clearly) 
• 2500 words 

Introduction /20 – Two paragraphs approx 

Title is clear and relevant to project. 

Proposed key question is resolved and explained. 

Definition of proposed key terms (summary only) associated with questioning have been refined and relevance to questioning is explained.  

Rationale (summary only) – explanation of why topic is of interest: outlines why you are undertaking the project e.g. what you hope to achieve, will you be making an original contribution of knowledge or elaborating on current research in some unique way? 

Methodology (summary only) – explanation of proposed methodology employed: methodology e.g. practice-based research etc is explained and its relationship to the methods you are utilising is outlined.  

Outline of proposed approach to documentation (summary only): explain how you are documenting your project’s journey and why e.g. Discuss blogging as research and how this is relevant to your blogging process.  

Organisation – outlines how research may be organized e.g. summarise your arguments and outline how these will structured in one to two sentences – what is the logical order for your arguments?       


Body /45 - Six paragraphs approx. 

Chapter/subheadings headings are clear, logically ordered and related to content.  

Compile a list of arguments related to your project question – at least 6. 

Emerging positioning of each argument in context of historical, theoretical and practical investigations is evident e.g. every argument is supported by relevant historical/theoretical examples.  

Relevance of each reference/example to your developing project is explained. 

Methodology (including approach to blogging) is expanded on and specific relevance to project methods is explained.  


Conclusion /15 – Two to three paragraphs approx.

Restates/summarises arguments. 

Outlines key points from body 

Proposes implications of findings to date.  



Presentation & Referencing /10 

Correct referencing and citations (APA) evident. 

• Is clearly structured – introduction, body, conclusion.  

• Attention to spelling, grammar and readability, and flow.  


Documentation /10 

Analysed and annotated texts associated with proposal – at least 4. 

 All assignments are to be submitted to tutor by 5pm on due date.
